2011 NCRG Tour and Roundup Seventeen Model A‟s, four on trailers, met on Friday May 27th at the home of Dave and Peggy Gill under grey skies to start a 77 mile adventure to the 2011 NCRG in Vallejo. After a smooth start and pleasant drive down Hwy 84, the adventure part of the tour started when a de-tour sent the group around a different route to the ferry crossing above Rio Vista. When everyone had crossed over the river, the group headed into Rio Vista for lunch at Lucy’s restaurant. The meals were good, as expected, and the sun made a casual appearance. We then headed west on Hwy. 12 bound for Fairfield. After turning onto a back road into Cordelia, we drove over stretches of old US 40 as we wound our way into Vallejo and ended our journey at Dan Foley Park, the site of the roundup. The weekend included numerous events such as car and fashion judging, tours of Mare Island, trips to old town Benicia, a wine coun-try tour and a short Friday downpour. The Capitol A‟s were well represented at the car judging by Ralph Lawrie (1931 sedan delivery), Dennis Martin (1928 roadster pick-up), Bob Smith (1930 roadster pick up), and Jim Wermes (1931 slant window). Fashion entrants included Peggy Gill and Kathy Torkelson. Jerry Bengel and Jim Wermes also participated as car judges. The Capitol A‟s put on the Gymkhana on Sunday afternoon under very pleasant conditions and the participants all seemed to enjoy the event. A big round of applause goes out to Ben Couch for a job well done in organizing the event and to all the members who helped out. The group departed for Sacramento Monday morning following somewhat the same route home. How-ever, to avoid Hwy. 12 to Rio Vista and the previously traveled levee road detour, the tour leader decided to follow a course that would take us to Davis and then a short trip across the Yolo Causeway into Sacramento. This course included a surprising 5 miles of gravel road that was not marked on the map, a stop for a loose wheel, and a potty stop in Dixon. At this point the group had to separate due to a starter failure. Ultimately, everyone ended up driving Hwy. 80 into Sacramento. We did have two cars that needed to make the final journey home via the tow truck but all in all, the 2011 NCRG tour was a fun, and at times surprising, adventure with a really nice group of people.
